Day 01: Arrival in Beijing
Arrive in Beijing. You will be met by our guide at airport and transferred to your hotel in Beijing. Free for rest of the day. ( D )
Day 02: Beijing--Urumqi by air
Morning at leisure. Take an afternoon flight to Urumqi. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel in Urumchi. ( B L D )
Day 03: Urumqi
Enjoy an excursion to Tianchi Lake situated on Tianshan Mountain that a lake boasts both splendid natural scenery and legendary talessituated. Back to the city, take a city tour, which gives you a glimpse of the major sights of this north-western city populated by Han people and thirteen ethnic minorities. Quite different from the usual Chinese street scene, Urumqi features nomadic Khazakhs, a Middle Eastern bazaar, a jade-carving center and more. Attend a welcome dinner in the evening. ( B L D )
Day 04: Urumqi--Kashgar by air
A full day excursion takes you to the pasture by the Southern Mountain. Take an evening flight to Kashgar. ( B L D )
Day 05: Kashigar--Urumchi
Excursion today takes you to the Great Bazaar, alive with storybook scenes: thousands of merchants haggling for camels, carpets and other native goods; imams on donkeys and veiled women in their black robes. Fly back to Urumqi in the evening and transfer to your hotel in Urumchi. ( B L D )
Day 06: Urumchi--urpan by road
This morning, proceed to Turpan by coach. Sightseeing program features Gaochang, the ancient walled capital of the Uighurs, Suliman's Minaret and the ruins of Jiaohe City. Attend a music and dance performance in the evening. Stay at your hotel in Turpan. ( B L D )
Day 07: Turpan--Dunhuang by road
Excursions today include the grape growing valleys, where you will be treated to Turpan's grapes. Also, visit ancient underground irrigation projects. Take an overnight train to Dunhuang. ( B L D )
Day 08: Dunhuang
Arrival in Dunhuang in the morning and transfer to your hotel in Duhuang. Today's highlight is a visit to the Mogao Grottoes. Otherwise known as the Cave of the One-Thousand-Buddhas, it was built in 366 A.D. The 492 grottoes boast mural paintings, totalling 45,000 square meters and 2,000 painted figurines. ( B L D )
Day 09: Dunhuang--Jiayuguan by train
This morning, tour the Ming Sha Hill and the Crescent Moon Hill. Take an after noon train to Jiayuguan and transfer to your hotel at Jiayuguang. ( B L D )
Day 10: Jiayuguan--Lanzhou by air
Climb the Jiayuguan Tower and have a glimpse of the western-most section of the Great Wall. Though not functioning any more, the tower is a reminder of the battles in ancient times. In the afternoon, fly to Lanzhou and check into your hotel in Lanzhou ( B L D )
Day 11: Lanzhou--Xian by air
Morning excursions feature White Pagoda Park and the Provincial Museum. Take an afternoon flight to Xian and check into your hotel in Xian ( B L D )
Day 12: Xian
Today's city tour highlights The Shaanxi Museum - a large modern museum of the national level. Then move on to Big Goose Pagoda. Then visit Xian City Wall - a symbol of great significance of the famous historic cultural city of Xian. Back to your hotel. ( B L )
Day 13: Xian
A full day excursion to the Museum of the Terra-Cotta Warriors and Horses highlights your trip to this ancient city. The 6,000 life-size terra-cotta warriors and horses unearthed from the tomb of the first emperor of the Oin Dynasty were acclaimed as the "eighth wonder" of the world. Day 14: Xian--Shanghai by air
Spend the morning, visiting the Bell Tower - dating back to the Ming dynasty (1368-1644), and the Stone Steles Forest Museum. Fly to Shanghai in the afternoon. Stay at your hotel in Shanghai ( B L )
