Night View of Grand Canal Hangzhou

For me, Grand Canal Hangzhou is the best preserved and most beautiful section of Grand Canal, China, starting from Beijing in the north and ending at Hangzhou in the south for a total length of 1776 km, the earliest and longest man-made canal in the world.

As a Hangzhou native, each time back to Hangzhou, I cannot resist the temptation to have a glimpse of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage crowned waterway, immersing myself into the highlight of Hangzhou’s historical roots and cultural history, both physically and spiritually.

Basically you have two ways to visit the magnificent ancient canal – cruising on the Grand Canal or walking along the stone-pave pathways on the tree-lined and relics-dotted banks. For more travel information on Grand Canal Hangzhou, you may see my previous post – How to Visit Grand Canal Hangzhou.

Today I’d like to share with you the pictures of the night view and scenes of Grand Canal Hangzhou on my recent trip to the canal in the evening.  A night walking tour along the illuminated shorelines of the waterway allows you to see the perfect fusion of the past and present, antiquity and modernity.

If time permits on your Hangzhou tour, packing and wearing a pair of comfortable shoes,  have a walking tour  of Grand Canal Hangzhou either in daytime or in the evening, your perfect way  to mix with the locals, to see Hangzhou, and know China.
