Are you planning your Hunan Tour? Hunan Province is also nicknamed “Xiang” named after the 817km Xiang River, the largest river in Hunan, passing Yongzhou, Hengyang, Changsha and emptying itself into Dongting Lake connected to Yangtze River.
The western Hunan (also known as “Xiang Xi”) has two world famous destinations – Zhangjiajie (Wulingyuan Scenic Area) and Fenghuang ( ancient town ). Wulingyuan Scenic Area was listed with UNESCO World Heritage 1992. Wulingyuan Scenic Area is famous for its unique hills, queer rockss and peaks, tranquil valleys, clear streams, abundant fauna and flora and hospitable climate.
This world heritage site is popularly known as “Zhangjiajie Senic Area” rather than “Wulingyuan” mainly because Wulingyuan Scenic Area is under the administration of Zhangjiajie City.
Fenghuang (Phenix Ancient Town) is a well-preserved ancient town with many distinctive architectural remains of Ming and Qing styles. In the old town, people would take a boat cruise in the beautiful Tuo River, appreciate the unique architecture of local people, taste the culture of Miao minority people.
The regional capital city of Changsha is the main transport hub which brings you to Zhangjiajie and Fenghuang Old Town by bus. In addition, the city of Zhangjiajie has an airport and a railway station as well connecting you to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and other cities.
People often uses Zhangjiajie as springboard to head to Fenghuang Ancient Town, about 210 km to the southwest of Zhangjiajie. If you are interested in organized Zhangjiajie Tour, you may check out the link Zhangjiajie Tour or Hunan Tour.
