Wuyishan Scenic Area

Plan your Wuyishan tour? One question is how to visit Wuyi Mountains and what to do in Mount Wuyi. Well, Wuyishan is mainly composed of three parts – Wuyishan City, Wuyishan Holiday Resort and Wuyishan Scenic Area.
 
Visitors would stay at Wuyishan Holiday Resort and sightseeing at Wuyishan Scenic Area which are close to each other, only divided by a river known as “Chongyang Stream,“. Few people would like to visit Wuyishan City itself, which is 16km north of both Wuyishan Holiday Resort and sightseeing at Wuyishan Scenic Area.

Wuyishan Scenic Area are mainly composed of  “Heavenly Tour Peak - Nine Bend River Rafting” Area, “Roaring Tiger Rock  -A Thread of Sky ” Area,  “Water Curtain Cave - Da Hong Pao” Area and Wuyi Palace Scenic Area.

How to Get to Wuyshan Scenic Area
The 16km Wuyi Avenue links Wuyishan city and Wuyishan Nantional Holiday Resort running from north to south. Both Wuyishan Railway Station and Wuyshan Airport  are located close to Wuyi Avenue. So Wuyishan National Holiday resort is easily accessible by trains and flights.  
 
Wuyishan Scenic Area is located on the west bank of Chongyang Stream running from north to south which is the divided line between Wuyishan Scenic Area and Wuyishan National Holiday Resort. It is only a 20 minute walk cross Lantang Bridge over Chongyang Stream, from Wuyishan National Holiday Resort to the Wuyi Palace, the entrance to the core of Wuyishan Scenic Area.

Wuyi Palace is an attraction itself as well as a place where visitors can buy entrance tickets and shuttle bus tickets for their sightseeing at Wuyishan Scenic Area. Actually Wuyi Palace is the informal entrance to the core of Wuyishan Scenic Area, it is not the main entrance to Wuyishan Scenic Area. Wuyishan Scenic Area has two main entrances – North Entrance and South Entrance.

If you come from either Wuyishan Railway Station or Wuyshan Airport - to Wuyishan National Holiday Resort, you will pass by the North Entrance to Wuyishan Scenic area. You may stop to buy the tickets for your sightseeing at Wuyishan Scenic area. Or you can buy your tickets at Wuyi Palace later or next day. For individual travelers, it is easy to buy tickets at Wuyi Palace since it is close to Wuyishan National Holiday Resort.
  
Get around Wuyishan Scenic Area
For the transportation in Wuyishan Scenic Area, you must use the shuttle bus service operated by Wuyishan Scenic Area Company. So when you purchase your entrance tickets, you must buy their shuttle bus service. All the shuttle buses start both at North Entrance and South Entrance. Most tour groups have to go to either North Entrance or South Entrance aboard the buses for their sightseeing. For individual travelers, it is ok to start their sightseeing at Wuyi Palace, which all the shuttle buses will pass by. You will get your seating spaces at Wuyi Palace.
 
How to Purchse the Tickets for Wuyishan Scenic Area ( Attractions & Shuttle Bus Service )
Like most so called “5A” scenic areas elsewhere in China, Wuyishan Scenic Area also has the ticketing policy of all for one ticket practice- You buy one ticket for all the attractions you are going to visit instead of buying one by one. This all for one tickting policy is also practised for shuttle bus service within Wuyishan Scenic Area.
 
Only one exception, the ticket for bamboo rafting at Nine Bend River is not included for the all for one ticket. You have to buy separately.

Wuyishan City, Wuyishan City Fujian

Plan your Wuyishan tour? Wuyishan in Chinese literally means Mount Wuyi or Wuyi Mountains which was listed as World Heritage, natural and cultural in December,1999. So Wuyishan City is a city named after Mount Wuyi, hoping the brand of Wuyi Mountains will bring more attention to the small city from outside world for better life and development.
 
Before August 21, 1989, Wuyishan City was known as Chong An County. Right now Wuyishan City is a county-level city under the administration of Nanping City in Fujian Province.
 
Wuyishan City has two meanings – broad and narrow. As for the broad meaning, it administrates three parts - Wuyishan City proper, Wuyishan Holiday Resort and Wuyishan Scenic Area.
 
As for the narrow sense, it only refers to Wuyishan city proper. Wuyishan City proper is about 15km north of both Wuyishan National Holiday Resort and Wuyishan Scenic Area. while Wuyishan National Holiday Resort and Wuyishan Scenic Area are next to each other, only divided by the Chongyang Stream.
 
When talking about Wuyishan City, usually people refer to the city proper of Wuyishan, not Wuyishan Holiday Resort and Wuyishan Scenic Area. Very few people would stay in the hotels in Wuyishan City proper, most people would like to stay in Wuyishan Holiday Resort which is close to Wuyishan Scenic Area.

Don’t confuse Wuyishan City proper with Wuyishan National Holiday Resort! You most probably stay in Wuyishan Holiday Resort, not in the city center of Wuyishan, which are about 16km apart.
 
If you have extra visit time in Wuyishan, a side trip to the city proper of Wuyishan City is advisable. Wuyishan City is a booming city, a small sized city in China. It is developing very fast.
 
You can take Bus No.6 from Wuyishan National Holiday Resort to the downtown of Wuyishan City for 3 Yuan.
 
Don’t miss having a walk at the pedestrian street in Wuyishan city – Heping Nanlu, which is rife with all kinds stuff, ranging from world famous brands to the local products in Wuyishan.

Wuyi Palace Wuyi Mountains

Planning your Wuyishan tour? Wuyi Palace in Wuyi Mountains is an interesting sight. It could refer to the following threee meanings: 

1. Wuyi Palace Scenic Area
2. Wuyi Palace itself
3. A place name, an address
 
Wuyi Palace Scenic Area
Wuyi Palace Scenic Area is one of the core attration areas in Mount Wuyi Scenic Area. The other core scenic areas in Wuyi Mountains are “Heavenly Tour Peak - Nine Bend River Rafting” Area, “Roaring Tiger Rock - A Thread of Sky” Area and “Water Curtain Cave - Da Hong Pao” Area.
 
The main attractions at Wuyi Palace Scenic Area are the 3000-meter Song Dynasty Street, Mount Wuyi Musuem, Sanqing Hall, Great King Peak, Manting Peak, Lion Peak, Huangu Rock, Sangu Rock, Chucius Memorial Hall (a famous scholar and philosopher in Song Dynasty) and Liuyong Memorial Hall ( a well known poet ). It is a scenic area which mingles natural landscape, gardening, architecture, history and culture.
 
Wuyi Palace Scenic Area is located at the foot of Dawang Peak ( Great King Peak), next to the first bend of Nine Bend River. Cuy by Chongyang Stream, Wuyi Palace Scenic Area is just opposite Wuyi National Holiday Resort.
  
Usually people will visit Wuyi Palace Scenic Area after bamboo rafting on the Nine Bend River since Wuyi Palace Scenic Area is just next to the finishing point for the bamboo rafting.
 
Visiting Wuyi Palace Scenic Area takes approx. 1-2 hours. Often people would put Nine Bend River Rafting and Wuyi Palace Scenic Area on a half day tour.

Wuyi Palace itself
Wuyi Palace was first built in the Tianbao years (742-755) during the Tang Ddynasty. The Wuyi Palace is the oldest taoist palace in the Wuyi Mountains a place of sacrificial offering for the Spirit Lord of Wuyi Mountains by the emperors in all the dynasties. It was also one of the famous six palaces of Taoism in Song Dynasty.

 
In Song dynasty, the Wuyi Palace was expanded to accommodate over 300 halls in the Song Dynasty. In mid autumn every year, sacrificial ceremonies would be held in honor of Lord Wuyi and the Venerable Royal Lady.
 
In the past Wuyi Palace was repared in different dynasties. After several fires, man made damages and the wars, there are now only a few empty rooms left. The two cherry bays of 800-900 years old in the yard are still alive left from Song Dynasty. All round revamp of Wuyi Palace is on the swing with the fast development of tourism in Mount Wuyi.

A place name – the Entrance to the Core of Wuyishan Scenic Area
Wuyi Palace is locally regarded as a place - the entrance to the core of Wuyishan Scenic Area. Usually visitors would come to Wuyi Palace to take shuttle buses to different attractions since Wuyi Palace is just next to the Shuttle Bus Terminal.
 
So very often “Wuyi Palace” is equivalent to the “Starting Point for visiting Wuyishan Scenic Area”. In the morning, if people are going to Wuyi Palace, most probably they will take the shuttle bus at Wuyi Palace and start their whole sighseeing, not exactly visit Wuyi Palace at that particulart time.
