Today is the 100th continuously rainless and snowless day for Beijing. That means in the past 100 days Beijing has had no rain, no snow! What a dry day in a dry city like Beijing in northen China. The tempertation to touch the ice and snow was so great that the day before yesterday I went to Shichahai Ice Skating Rink feeding my eyes with a world of ice
Don’t be so disappointed if you cannot see the natural snow and you are fed up with the man-made snow all over the parks and some indoors stadiums in Beijing due to its notoriously wasting of water resources. You still can find abundant natural ice in the lakes and canals in Beijing.
There are a number of open-air ice skating rinks inside the some lakes in Beijing Shichahai Lake is one of favorite outdoor ice skating rinks for many local skaters. Shichahai Lake is composed of three connected lakes, namely Qianhai Lake ( fronk lake), Houhai Lake (back lake) and Xihai Lake ( West Lake). At the time of my writing, only Qianhai lake is open to ice skaters close to the lotus market and public bar area along the lake.
It is a great fun to ice skate at picturesque Qianhai lake in the winter. I’m not an ice skater, but much delighted to observe the local people having a great time sliding around in their improvised ice-chairs and ice-bicycles.
