Located in the north-west of Forbidden City, the Shichahai area is centraly preserved zone showcasing the life of old Beijing. It is comprised of three-lake area: Qian Hai Lake, meaning Front Sea; Hou Hai Lake, meaning Back Sea and Xi Hai Lake, meaning Western Sea. In ancient times, there were docks at the Shichahai area where goods were unloaded after being transported along China's Grand Canal from Hangzhou. The attractions include old hutongs, traditional courtyards ( or siheyuans), the former palaces and gardens of the Qing Dynasty regent. Lots of bars are clustered in the Shichahai area or along the Shichahai Lakeshore. Yinding Qiao (Silver Ingot Bridge) marks the division line between Hou Hai and Qian Hai, has stood there for hundreds of years. Yandai Xiejie is located at the back of Houhai. As its name tells, this street, now resembling a hutong, used to be a well-noted street selling long-stemmed pipes. Now, it is a street lined with numerous antique stores and trendy bars. Mr. Kang's home is also within the walking distance of Former Residence of Soong Ching-ling (Song Qingling Guju), Bell Tower ( Zhong Lou ), Drum Tower (Gu Lou), Prince Gong's Mansion (Gong Wang Fu) and more...
